Welcome to the Siop Ni Project
Our aim is to buy and refurbish the Church Hall in Llanddewi Brefi and open a community-owned, volunteer-run shop...and so much more!
Siop Ni - Much More Than a Shop
Siop Ni is an exciting opportunity, not only to re-establish a shop in the village, but also to provide additional resources/services to the community, which could include:
- Caffi Dewi (our community cafe)
- Mini-launderette
- WiFi hot spot/computer/colour copier/printer/quiet learning space with opportunities for learning Welsh, numeracy, literacy
- Llanddewi Brefi heritage museum with contributions from the community
- Health hub (with health/wellbeing information + digital access for communicating with the doctor surgeries)
- ATM
Enhancing community resilience
By hosting services that we need locally, we hope Siop Ni will make our village more resilient and add to the vibrancy of our community. By providing a warm, welcoming and friendly space to buy essentials and have a chat and a cuppa, we hope Siop Ni will help fight isolation in our rural community.
Strengthen and Protect the Use of Welsh
Welsh is central to Siop Ni, and we are asking our community for feedback on how Siop Ni can strengthen and protect the use of Welsh.
What are we doing?
Our Steering Committee (comprised of 14 village residents) has been working hard over the last 15 months
Community Engagement
In May 2025, we conducted a village consultation and had 84 responses covering 176 people.
On 26 March 2026, we launched our 2nd consultation (responses due 9 April 2026), and we are hosting public information sessions 29/31 March and 5/7 April @ Caffi Dewi.
Funding
We've received grant funding from Cynnal y Cardi and Perthyn for our feasibility studies/start-up costs.
We intend to run a community share offer and to apply for grants to fund the purchase and refurbishment the Church Hall and the initial set-up costs of Siop Ni.

Legal
Structure
As of 21 August 2025, Siop Ni CBS Cyfyngedig was registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a Community Benefit Society (a not-for-profit social enterprise required to operate for the benefit of the community).
Next Steps
Once the 2nd Consultation is done, we will publish the results and prepare to make an offer to purchase the Church Hall and launch the community share offer.
97.6%
